The city of Athens and City Auditor Kathy Hecht were recent recipients of the Auditor of State Award.

State Auditor Dave Yost issued the commendation saying, “Clean and accurate record-keeping are the foundation for good government and the taxpayers can take pride in your commitment to accountability.”

According to the letter, the award is given to entities that file timely financial reports and receive a clean audit report meaning the audit did not contain findings for recovery, material citations or weaknesses, significant deficiencies, single audit findings or questioned costs.

“I have worked very hard since I became auditor to improve our reporting practices and I credit the employees in my office and throughout the city for helping the city of Athens get to this point of accountability,” said Hecht.
