Athens Lady Bulldogs Excel Over Fed Hock In TVC Preview
< < Back to athens-lady-bulldogs-excel-over-fed-hock-tvc-previewWith Athens high school football due to end in the coming weeks, a lot of attention has shifted towards the basketball court as the action inside the TVC gyms is just getting started.
And the attention hasn't gone unnoticed by coach Wayne Horsley and his Lady Bulldogs as they took down the Federal Hocking Lady Lancers 34-11 at South Gallia high school during the TVC Preview on Saturday.
The TVC Preview–which occurs the week before the season starts–consists of shortened games with two eight-minute quarters. Each team got a full timeout and one 30 second timeout and it is a time for each team to show off their rosters and get a quick tune up before the season starts.
The Lady Lancers go into this upcoming season with new head coach Jeremy Tolson at the helm and they came to play right off the tip, as senior Megan Thompson knocked down a jumper from the high post. Sophomore guard Destiny Tabler splashed a three from the right wing to add to a strong start for Fed Hock.
After a 5-1 run by the Lancers, Horsley called his team over to corral his team and settle some early game jitters. From that point on, the Lady Bulldogs suffocated Federal Hocking with a full court press, forcing turnovers all over the court.
Athens went on to thoroughly dominate both quarters of play with their willingness to crash the offensive glass. When they weren’t moving the ball around for easy looks, the Green and Gold were snatching up offensive rebounds and racking up second chance points.
Although Athens senior leader Dominique Doseck only put up five points in the contest, her presence on the court took defensive pressure off her fellow teammates and led to multiple easy buckets for her the Lady Bulldogs in an offense that was difficult to stop.
Tolson will make his regular-season coaching debut on Nov. 29th as the Lady Lancers host Meigs in their season opener.
As for the Bulldogs, they open their season on the same day when they play in the Paint Valley Classic.
