Medical Group To Campaign To Stop Prescription Abuse In Ohio
< < Back toAn Ohio medical group plans a statewide public health effort to help reduce prescription pill abuse and addiction.
The Ohio State Medical Association says it will be partnering with major hospital systems across the state in the Smart Rx program that will include training for doctors who prescribe medications to help patients deal with pain and other ailments. Doctors also will be urged to take a greater role in helping find solutions to prescription abuse and addiction.
The association says the problem each year kills more Ohioans than automobile accidents.
Details of the statewide effort will be announced Wednesday at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.
Ohio’s Gov. John Kasich and the director of the Ohio Department of Aging have been invited to speak.
