Prosecutor: Marijuana Task Force Report ‘Straightforward’
< < Back to prosecutor-marijuana-task-force-report-straightforwardCOLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – The Republican prosecutor from southwest Ohio who heads a task force on marijuana legalization in Ohio says his group’s analysis of the potential impacts of decriminalization seeks to be as objective as possible.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters was asked to chair the Marijuana Policies of Ohio Taskforce by ResponsibleOhio, the group advancing a legalization amendment toward the November ballot.
Deters says the report his group released Thursday provides a “straightforward assessment,” developed over months, of how legalization might affect law enforcement, public safety, public health and Ohio’s overall economy. It presents facts without making a recommendation on decriminalizing the substance.
The report came as a commission reviewing Ohio’s constitution debated language blocking future amendments that contain economic monopolies, such as specific growing locations contained in ResponsibleOhio’s proposal.
