The Athens Rock Camp for Girls will round out a week of workshops and instrument lessons with two concerts at ARTS/West, scheduled for Saturday, July 11 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 12 at 2 p.m.

The shows will feature the debut performances of groups created during the camp.

Now in its fifth year, the Athens Rock Camp for Girls builds self-esteem through music creation and performance. By providing workshops and technical training, the camp creates leadership opportunities, cultivates a supportive community of peers and mentors, and encourages social change and the development of life skills, according to a press release.

Organizers have stated that, through community support and monetary donations, they are committed to keeping the camp affordable for individuals from all economic backgrounds.

Each year, area girls form bands, learn to play instruments, write songs, and at the end of the week, perform a show. Various workshops are also offered and are staffed by a variety of volunteers.
