The Wahama White Falcons have taken the last two showdowns against TVC-Hocking rival Belpre, but the Golden Eagles aren’t going to be the same test this year as they were in years prior.

Belpre is coming off of its first win of the season, topping a struggling Federal Hocking squad. Running backs Matthew Kolvin and Deijon Bedgood helped the Golden Eagles combine for 46 points on offense behind four touchdowns and 225 collective all-purpose yards from the backs. Belpre’s offense has thrived on reeling off explosive plays and its threats in the backfield make it a possibility on every play. Tavian Miller and company run the ball almost extensively, so the White Falcons will need to be aware of the Golden Eagles option threat.

Defensively, Wahama is hoping to keep that same mindset when it comes to stopping Belpre’s dynamic backfield.

“I wish it was that easy. They’ve got Tavian Miller at quarterback, who has been a multi-year starter who does a good job running their show,” Wahama coach Dave Barr said. “I think the (Deijon) Bedgood kid is as explosive as anybody in our conference.”

The White Falcons’ defense has only allowed 47 points in three games this season, but Belpre’s veteran offensive line brings added protection that the White Falcons haven’t faced all year. With the help of the big men up front, a big factor for the Golden Eagle ground game will be the battle up front.

With both teams off to a slow start this season, neither coaching staff wants their side to make the majority of the mental miscues.

“The main thing is being more consistent in terms of not making mistakes. Take care of the ball, cut down on mistakes and continue to execute,” Barr said.

Wahama will be searching for its first conference win of the season, while Belpre will be looking to start the season’s first winning streak. The White Falcons and Golden Eagles kick off at 7:30 pm on Friday night in Belpre, Ohio.
