Beverly Jones Gives Advice on How to Thrive on the Job Even During Tough Times
< < Back toHave you ever received some tough feedback on the job? Did you know how to take it? And, did you ever make a mistake at work…a big error in judgment? What did you do to get past it?
Career consultant, executive coach, and WOUB blogger Beverly E. Jones tells us some easy tips on how we can accept negative feedback and turn those comments into positive actions.
“It’s normal to feel defensive when people criticize you,” Jones says. “But feeling insulted is painful and doesn’t get you anywhere. With practice you can develop a thicker skin. You can choose to let go of your hurt feelings and refocus on the work product or concept under discussion.”
In addition, Jones told WOUB’s Tom Hodson that we cannot be immobile because of a poor decision or a mistake of judgment while on-the-job. In fact, in innovative and entrepreneurial environments, making mistakes means one is taking risks and taking risks is encouraged. We must move on quickly.
Jones tells listeners what to do when a mistake is recognized and how to put it behind you and move forward with confidence.
These career tips and others are included in Jones’ new book: Think Like an Entrepreneur, Act like a CEO- 50 Indispensable Tips to Help You Stay Afloat, Bounce Back, and Get Ahead at Work. It is being published by The Career Press and will be available early in December.
