Ohio Leaves Response Plans for Campus Shooters to Colleges

A review by The Associated Press shows that eight years after the Virginia Tech massacre prompted tighter campus security measures, some universities make active shooter training mandatory for incoming students, while others offer little guidance on what to do if there’s a gunman on the loose.
Ohio’s higher education department – which oversees higher education institutions – does not impose requirements for active shooting training. The agency’s spokesman says each university and college board of trustees is tasked with formulating a safety plan that works best for their campus.
Such training isn’t required for all students at Ohio University and Ohio State University, though the campuses do offer it.
