Bobcat Volleyball Gets 20th Win, Beats Bowling Green
< < Back to bobcat-volleyball-gets-20th-win-beats-bowling-greenAfter being unable to find the win column for two matches, Ohio Bobcats volleyball did it on Saturday night. The ‘Cats lost their last two to Northern Illinois and Miami, but they dominated Bowling Green in Bowling Green, Ohio, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-20).
After starting the year 9-0 in conference play two straight losses had lowered the confidence of the team. But this dominating performance will be sure to raise that confidence, and help push the team on what they hope is a Mid-American Conference title, and an NCAA tournament run.
To clinch the win Ohio looked like a team that wanted this one as badly as its fans. In the third and final set, Ohio had 15 kills. But what the Bobcats did even better was what they’re known most for, and that is stellar defense as Ohio forced another five BGSU errors, and only allowed the Falcons to convert on nine kills. The ‘Cats won the third set 25-20 and match with it.
The Bobcats came out on fire on offense registering 14 kills in the first set along with only two errors. Bowling Green had 12 kills, but the big difference maker was Ohio forcing Bowling Green to make mistakes as it had eight in the first set total. The ‘Cats took the first set 25-18.
Bowling Green had another error-heavy set in the second as it registered nine of them. Ohio’s hitting percentage went down a little to .211, but it was still enough of an offensive output to register a set win 25-20.
The win no doubt will provide a huge boost for a team that had hit its first bumps in the road in a long time. Coach Deane Webb feels like the adversity will help the team, but he also said it’s time to get past the adversity as well.
Ohio is now finished on the road and has four remaining games to be played in the Convocation Center. That set will start with matches against Kent State on Thursday at 7 p.m., and against Central Michigan at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
