Bowling Green Trumps Ohio, 62-24
< < Back to bowling-green-trumps-ohio-62-24Ohio picked up its third straight loss Wednesday night in a 62-24 beating, delivered by the Bowling Green Falcons.
Matt Johnson kept his spectacular season going with a 26 for 35 night, with 365 yards and four touchdowns, bringing his season total up to an astounding 33 with just four interceptions on the campaign. Johnson’s 33 touchdowns currently lead college football in that category.
Although the final point difference was a whopping 38, the game was not one-sided early on. Bowling Green picked up an early 7-0 lead on a Travis Greene touchdown, which was then answered with an A.J Ouellette score for the Bobcats.
The touchdown was Ouellette’s first rushing touchdown since Sep. 26 against Minnesota. Ouellette had seven carries on the night for just 38 yards.
After the teams traded touchdowns yet again to tie the contest at 14, Johnson and the Falcons offense took over the rest of the game. After three consecutive Johnson touchdown passes, Bowling Green turned a 14-14 game into a 34-14 rout in just under 13 minutes of game clock.
Three minutes later, Falcon defender Dernard Turner had an impressive 85-yard return on a pass he intercepted thrown by JD Sprague, who was in for the injured Derrius Vick.
Sprague was just 10 of 24 on the night for 162 yards and no touchdowns in relief. Derrius Vick was 11 of 15 with 82 yards in the air, in addition to 54 yards on the ground prior to leaving the game with an injury in the third quarter.
Moving forward, the Bobcats have three games remaining, all landing on the next three Tuesdays. The Golden Flashes of Kent State will invade Peden Stadium Nov. 10 as Ohio looks to bounce back from its third straight loss, while Bowling Green looks to keep its momentum going Nov. 11 on the road against Western Michigan.
