CLEVELAND (AP) – A major national marijuana legalization group plans to put a medical marijuana question on Ohio’s fall ballot.

Cleveland.com reports the Washington, D.C.-based Marijuana Policy Project plans a constitutional amendment to establish a marijuana system similar to those in 23 states and the District of Columbia. The proposal comes as the Republican-led Legislature considers medical marijuana legislation.

The policy project’s spokesman says its Ohio campaign is in the early stages and the amendment isn’t written. They plan to propose allowing people with serious medical conditions to buy medical marijuana from retail stores or to grow their own with physician approval.

The proposal is among three legalization efforts being mentioned for Ohio’s ballot this November. It’s unclear whether alliances will be made. The two others would legalize marijuana for most uses.
