CINCINNATI (AP) – With candidates at the Iowa starting gate for the presidential nominating process, some GOP activists in a key Ohio region are eager to see who’s left in the race after voters in earlier states start winnowing the field.

Ohio’s primary is March 15, and some Republicans expect the field to be down to a handful of candidates by then.

College Republican activist Kennedy Copeland thinks that’s a good thing, because Ohio voters can focus more on studying their plans for governing.

Some conservatives in southwest Ohio who have lined up behind Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas are hoping he can slow front-runner Donald Trump in the Iowa caucuses. And fans of Gov. John Kasich are wondering if he can start building momentum in the Feb. 9 New Hampshire primary.
