Griffin Lutz Injury Update
< < Back to griffin-lutz-injury-update-2After suffering a fracture in his foot at Vinton County on Jan. 26, Athens junior point guard Griffin Lutz had surgery in Columbus earlier this morning.
Lutz was injured with 20 seconds left in regulation on a go-ahead layup that ultimately pushed the Bulldogs past the previously unbeaten Vikings 79-75. In his final game of the regular season, the standout guard posted 26 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
According to Athens head coach Jeff Skinner, the team does not have a timetable for Lutz’s recovery. However, he will be ready and available for the start of his senior season wearing the Green and Gold.
The injury to Lutz’s foot proved to be a devastating blow to an Athens team that had won six of its last seven contests. Without their primary offensive weapon, the Bulldogs are 2-2. They have three regular season games remaining on their schedule, two of which pit them against TVC-Ohio opponents. Athens is currently one game out of first place in the conference.
Following the regular season, the seventh seeded Bulldogs will take on the second seeded Warren Warriors in Division II district play. The matchup is set for Feb. 16 at Logan High School.
