The state Department of Administrative Services released test results Thursday afternoon that show Legionella bacteria was discovered in the Rhodes State Office Tower.
The bacteria was found at three locations in the building. A state spokesman says a men’s shower in the basement tested above guidelines recommended by the federal government.
Officials say the men’s locker room in the basement has since been closed off. The state is also providing hand sanitizer in kitchenettes and restrooms on every floor.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says Legionella bacteria are transmitted through drinking water.
Though usually harmless, elevated levels of the bacteria can make people sick with a severe type of pneumonia.
