Ohio Ends Season with Win over Miami
< < Back toOhio finished their spectacular regular season spoiling Miami’s (OH) senior night with a 77-58 victory.
Even though games are technically won in the fourth quarter, Ohio won this one in the first. The ‘Cats started off hot, starting the game on an 8-0 run and found themselves up 24-7 going into the second quarter.
Every quarter after was close in scoring, with Miami outscoring Ohio in two quarters while the Bobcats only outscored the Red Hawks by four in the third. The 17 point lead Ohio secured in the first served as a buffer for the rest of the night.
The closest Miami would get after the start of the game was nine. The ‘Hawks broke into the single digits with just under three minutes until halftime. Then the Bobcats went on a 7-0 run, a run from which Miami would never come back.
The last time these two teams played Miami had 32 turnovers; this time, Ohio forced 20. Ohio’s stout defense also held Miami to only 31 percent shooting from the field and 25 percent from behind the arc. Although the ‘Cats only shot 28 percent from 3 point range, they drilled 49 percent of their shots from the field.
Ohio played its typical game, suffocating defense with a balanced, offensive attack. Quiera Lampkins led all players on the court with 16 points while three other Bobcats scored in the double digits. Kiyanna Black and Kelly Karlis scored nine and eight points respectively.
The leading scorer for the RedHawks was Leah Purvis who racked up 13 points and was the only Red Hawk who scored more than eight points.
Ohio, being the MAC East Champions, head into the MAC tournament as the number one seed and gain a bye week. They will play on Wednesday, March 9 against an opponent that has yet to be determined.
