Romanchik, Laney Named Alternates for NCAA Tournament
< < Back to romanchik-laney-named-alternates-for-ncaa-tournamentFreshman Shakur Laney and senior Andrew Romanchik were announced as alternates in the NCAA Wrestling Championship Wednesday.
The two additions give Ohio wrestling a program record seven wrestlers who qualified for the national tournament. Laney and Romanchik join freshman Cameron Kelly, Austin Reese, and seniors Spartak Chino, Cody Walters and Phil Wellington.
Romanchik will be making his second appearance at the Championship, both times as an alternate. He fell to Lehigh wrestler Nathaniel Brown in the first round in last year’s tournament.
Laney joins freshman counterparts Kelly and Reese to become the most successful freshman class in Ohio wrestling history. The Bobcats have never sent three freshman to the NCAA tournament.
The Championship begins March 17 and runs through the 19 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The official brackets have yet to be announced.
