Sarah Grace Wins 94th Representative Democratic Seat
< < Back toDemocratic candidate Sarah Grace has unofficially won the 94th District House of Representative seat, defeating rival Eddie Smith with 57 percent of the vote.
A cheerful crowd of Athens democrats welcomed Grace at the Pigskin Bar and Grill on Court Street after the Athens Board of Elections distributed the final results.
“I am ecstatic. I am so excited, and I’m thankful for the results,” Grace said. “I want to thank everyone who supported me and believed in me.”
Ohio University Graduate Student Senate President and Grace opponent Eddie Smith congratulated Grace after her victory.
“Sara has a completely progressive platform that I’m behind,” said Smith.
Smith gathered with his supporters at the West End Ciderhouse as the results came in.
He said he is proud of his committee and is optimistic about the future. Smith renewed his aspirations to run for public office and says he hopes to run for county commissioner in the future.
“I got into this to help Athens County,” said Smith.
As for Grace, she is focused on the next election.
“The next step is to prepare for the general campaign,” Grace said. “Build up my staff, volunteers, and keep moving forward.”
Grace says she is looking forward to working hard for the next race to represent the district, but for now she says she is going to take a few days off.
She will face Nelsonville’s Jay Edwards in the November general election.
