COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – A new bill would legalize indoor smoking at more private clubs in Ohio.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Democratic Senate Minority Leader Joe Schiavoni of Boardman is sponsoring the bill with Republican Sen. Bill Seitz of Cincinnati. It was introduced this week.

The legislation would permit smoking in cigar clubs and other private groups, even if the club is next to other buildings.

It would also allow smoking in private clubs with one occupant or if multiple occupants have separate way to get outside. It also removes a requirement that a club must be a nonprofit and not have employees.

Representatives with the American Lung Association in Ohio, American Heart Association and American Cancer Society all say there’s no need to change the law.
