Free Summer Meals for Students
< < Back to free-summer-meals-for-studentsCOLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Ohio families are being reminded that schoolchildren can receive free meals throughout the summer through a program funded by the federal government and administered by the state.
The Summer Food Service Program provides free, nutritious meals and snacks throughout June, July and August to children under 18 and to people 19 through 21 who have been identified with a mental or physical disability and are on an individualized education plan.
The meals are available through sponsoring school districts, local government agencies, camps and private nonprofit organizations. No sign-up is required.
The Ohio Department of Education says more than 50,000 Ohio children received free daily meals through the program in 2015 with the help of 201 sponsoring agencies and 1,781 feeding sites.
