Jackson Apple Fest Kicks Off Sept. 20
< < Back to jackson-apple-fest-kicks-off-sept-20Next week marks the 75th edition of the annual Jackson Apple Festival, a four-day celebration of all things Jackson County, which is also celebrating it’s bicentennial this year.
Kicking off on Sept. 20, the festival will go strong until the evening of Sept. 24, with everything from an apple peeling contest to the crowning of the Jackson Apple Fest Little Queen to a baby crawling contest in between. Organized by the City of Jackson Tourism and Convention Commission, the festival is designed to include a variety of family-friendly, apple-centric activities that encourage community bonding.
Entertainment for the festival includes classic rock tribute artist Stadium 11, Nashville-based artist Logan Mize on Sept. 23, JJ & Good Times Bluegrass and many more.
All booths and exhibitions are open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day of the festival. Carnival rides, being yet another highlight of the annual event, will be open and running Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; on Wednesday 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. All kiddie rides will be open each day of the festival from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The Queens Window Display will be in the Law Office of Barry I. Smith; the Little Queens Display will be viewable at the Ohio Valley Bank on East Main Street in Jackson; the Past Court Members Display will be hosted by the Jackson Fabric & Sewing Center on Broadway St. and the Past Queens Display will be at the Farm Bureau on Broadway St.
Grand Marshall of the 2016 Jackson Apple Festival is Stewart Riegel. The 2016 Jackson Apple Festival Court includes queen Tori Leonard, first attendant Hannah Phipps and second attendant Loryn Strickland.
Apple Butter on the Midway, crafted by Victory Grange, will be available daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Festival goers can expect apple pies, dumplings, caramel apples, candied apples, apple butter, apple cider and other delicious apple products throughout the festival, as well as pounds upon pounds of apples from the Richards Brothers Fruit Farm.
