Sheets Not Enough For Rebels to Beat Belpre
< < Back to sheets-not-enough-for-rebels-to-beat-belpreHeading into South Gallia game, everyone knew Johnny Sheets was going to be the focal point of the South Gallia Rebels’ offense. Not only was he the focal point, he might as well have been the whole offense as the Rebels’ didn’t even pass in the first half.
However, the Belpre Golden Eagles second play of the game didn’t help their cause as Sheets fumbled the ball and the Eagles recovered well into Rebel territory. On the second play of their drive, running back Tojzae Reams rips one off for a 31-yard touchdown to give them an early 6-0 following a missed extra point. Belpre would continue this dominance and win 30-20.
Sheets would quickly redeem himself as he carries the fall six straight times, eventually finding the end zone on a 5-yard carry. To put the cherry on top, Sheets punches it in for the two-point conversion to put the Rebels up 8-6.
The Rebels quickly made Belpre go three-and-out, putting the ball right back in the hands of the home team. Sheets and company quickly marched up the field, but the drive stalled after a chop block set them up with a 1st and 25 that they couldn’t overcome. They went for it on 4th-and-2 but turned it over on downs in Golden Eagle territory.
Belpre quickly went to fourth down, but got the first down on a quality fake punt. Nothing became of it and ended up having to punt it later on in the drive.
With the ball back in the hand of Sheets, the Golden Eagles quickly marched into Rebel territory. He broke a couple tackles, punching in for the touch down from 12 yards out. Sheets would have had another two-point conversion, but got called back on a holding call against South Gallia. The score was 14-6 in the middle of the second following a botched extra point.
However, their lead would not last long at all. Not even 10 seconds later, Belpre’s Deijon Bedgood dodges a few tackles in the middle of the field and is off to the races up the right side line, going untouched for the touchdown off the kick return. Belpre quarterback Ryan Simoniette wasn’t able to get much through the air, but contributed by tying it up with a two-point conversion run. They went into half time tied up 14-14.
Belpre got the ball to start the second half and put the Golden Eagles up 22-14 with a Reams touchdown with a successful two-point conversion.
Unfortunately for Belpre, South Gallia still had Johnny Sheets. Sheets continued to pound the ball through the middle find the end zone for his third touchdown of the game. Sheets was also a factor on the defensive side of the ball, as he was double-teamed at the line and was still able to cause disruption against the Eagles.
However, Belpre wasn’t going to be denied tonight as Simoniette scored and got the two-point conversion to put the Golden Eagles ahead with 30-20, which ended up being the final. The one dimensional offense of South Gallia was unable to provide any spark to help the Rebels push ahead.
Belpre moves on to 3-3 as they welcome Miller next week. South Gallia falls to 2-4 and is at home against Waterford.
