The Belpre Golden Eagles and Eastern Eagles battled hard tonight, but only one team could come out on top. Belpre won over Eastern with a final score 25-20. Both teams faced the challenge of overcoming not only their opponent, but also the relentless rain which resulted in a slick and muddy field.

Both teams started started off slow, bringing to the table a strong defense that shut down their opponents plays. Eastern was the first to score with Josh Brewer running into the end zone, giving the Eagles an early lead.

To answer Eastern’s touchdown, Isaac Tullius stepped up his game and scored right off the bat in the second quarter, tying up the game 7-7.

Jesse Collins delivered with a touchdown for Belpre ran and couldn’t be stopped, putting the score at 13-7. An attempted 2-point conversion was foiled by the Eagles with 30 seconds left before halftime.

After halftime, the momentum began to kick in for both teams. Both had good defense, shutting down plays left and right.

Belpre’s offense continued its lead with Ryan Simoniette scoring with 6 minutes left to go in the fourth.

Eastern didn’t agree with this and fought back scoring two times in the second half putting it ahead 20-19.

The Eagles were sitting pretty in the fourth quarter, but the Golden Eagles surprised the crowd when freshman quarterback, Brandon Simoniette, scored with 15 seconds left on the clock giving the win to the Belpre Golden Eagles.

Belpre will face off against Waterford next Friday at Waterford in hopes to take home a win for the last game of the regular season. Eastern will play at home against Southern to end its last game of the regular season.
