It’s that time of the year, postseason basketball is upon us and the Athens Lady Bulldogs and the Gallia Academy Blue Angels get it started in the first round of the Division II tournament.

These two teams already played this year, Gallia Academy got the best of Athens on the road with a 47-40 win on Dec. 27.

Key Players:

For Athens, Freshman Laura Manderick has been the catalyst for the Lady Bulldogs all season long. She can drive to the rim, knock down three-pointers and rarely comes out of the game.

Olive Harter is also a three-point shooter who has a deadly shot and great court awareness. Harter has great basketball knowledge; she constantly finds her open teammates for easy buckets.

For Gallia Academy, Senior Carly Shriver led the Blue Angels with 18 points in their victory over Portsmouth on Friday. Also, Adrienne Jenkins had 11 points. One key thing to note is Shriver and starting point guard Alex Barnes were suffering from the stomach flu on Friday and had their minutes limited due to the illness.
