Ohio Women’s Basketball Places Three on All-MAC Teams
< < Back to ohio-womens-basketball-places-three-on-all-mac-teamsWhen Ohio Women’s Basketball first took the court in early November they had their sights on Cleveland and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Five months later, the team is ready to compete in the Mid-American Conference Tournament for another conference title thanks in large part to three players who earned conference honors.
Senior Quiera Lampkins, senior Jasmine Weatherspoon and freshman Amani Burke were all named as members of All-MAC teams, the conference announced Tuesday.
Lampkins, the MAC Defensive Player of the Year last season, was named to the All-MAC Second Team. Weatherspoon once again was named to the All-Defensive team and Burke earned a spot on the All-Freshman team.
Lampkins averages 19.9 points per game, second in the conference, 6.8 rebounds and more than three assists as Ohio’s unquestioned leader. Lampkins received three first-place votes for Player of the Year, 15 votes behind Larissa Lurken of Kent State. She also led the Bobcats with 66 steals and added 10 blocks.
Weatherspoon made the All-Defensive Team for the second-straight year. Weatherspoon led the Bobcats with 7.3 rebounds per game and also lead the team with 49 blocks, an average of 1.75 a game. Weatherspoon is third on the team with 51 steals.
Burke’s strong push towards the end of the season propelled her onto the All-Freshman Team. In Ohio’s past five regular season games, Burke has scored 10 or more points in all of them, highlighted by a 21-point explosion against Miami on Feb. 25. For the season, Burke is averaging 7.2 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.
The Bobcats are back in action on Wednesday against Northern Illinois in the MAC Tournament Quarter Finals from Quicken Loans Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
