Ohio Crosses Double-Digit Mark On Winning Streak Following Western Michigan Victory
< < Back toDespite playing in a chilly 39 degree atmosphere, Ohio (23-6, 4-0) won its 10th consecutive game, defeating Western Michigan Friday in a lopsided 9-1 victory.
The cold weather didn’t stop junior Danielle Stiene from performing well. She threw a complete game, only giving up one run and striking out six Broncos.
Getting Bobcat runners on base was what made the game get out of hand for Western Michigan. Heading to the top of the sixth inning, Ohio had a two-run lead with two outs when Casie Hutchinson launched a solo shot to provide a cushion for Stiene. A couple of stranded Ohio runners and an easy inning for Stiene brought the ‘Cats back to the plate for the top of the seventh inning and they did what they’ve done best lately. Score.
Following an Alex Day single and walk issued to Natalie Alvarez, Mikayla Cooper knocked out a home run, giving Ohio a 7-1 lead and a comfy advantage over the Broncos in the series opener.
However, the Bobcats wanted more.
Alexa Holland had runners on first and second base as she hit a double, driving in Alexis Milesky and advancing Casie Hutchinson to third base. Taylor Saxton’s groundout set the stage for Deanna Cole, who drove in Hutchinson, giving her team a 9-1 lead.
This win allowed Ohio to refuel as they prepare to take on Western Michigan again in a double header today at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
