Ohio’s White Wins Rutherford Invitational
< < Back toOhio senior golfer Peyton White has capped off his best season as a Bobcat by bringing the Rutherford Invitational title home to Athens. White shot a final round 72 (+1) this past Sunday to post a total score of 209 (-4), three strokes clear of any other competitor at the Blue Course.
The win marked White’s second victory in his past three tournaments, the first coming at the 2017 Mission Inn Spring Spectacular on March 18-19.
“It was a great week,” White said in a release. “That’s some of the best golf I’ve played all year, and it was awesome to be able to get a win in my last regular season event and to be able to win a Big Ten tournament as Penn State is a great team this year.”
White opened the tournament with a 69 (-2) and followed it up with a 68 (-3), the latter matching his best score of the entire season thus far. The senior dropped in a tournament-high 16 birdies and his score of 209 will go down as the eighth-best three-round total in Ohio history.
The Bobcats second best finishing score came from senior Ty Herriott who posted a 220 (+7) to finish T-13.
Penn State’s Blue Course in University Park, Penn. was more of a problem for the rest of the Ohio team that finished eighth out of twelve schools with a score of 885 (+33). Penn State and Georgetown were named co-champions of the event with scores of 868 (+16).
The Rutherford Intercollegiate was Ohio’s final regular season event. They will close the season at the Mid-American Conference Championship at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio, April 28-30.
