Conversations From Studio B: “The Laramie Project” at ARTS/West May 3
< < Back to conversations-from-studio-b-the-laramie-project-at-artswest-may-3Athens High School Drama Club, in collaboration with the ABC Players and ARTS/West, will hold a reading of Moisés Kaufman/the Tectonic Theater Project’s 2000 play The Laramie Project May 3 at 7:30 p.m. at ARTS/West. $10 is the suggested donation for a ticket, which will be available at the door.
In this installment of Conversations From Studio B, host Allison Ricket speaks with Rita Preston and Jim Parsons of the ABC Players and Athens High School students Lily Herold and Rhys Carr about the production. The play chronicles the true story of the 1998 murder of University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, WY. Shepard was an accomplished political science major who was brutally beaten to death because of his homosexuality, a tragedy which led to further investigation of hate crime law in Wyoming and across the nation.
Members of the Tectonic Theater Project visited Laramie five weeks after the crime to conduct more than 200 interviews that would eventually become the theatrical production.
