Kicking off July 20-23, the Ohio Valley Summer Theater presents Hairspray, a classic American tale of self-love, radical acceptance, and groovy tunes.

The production will take place in Ohio University’s Forum Theater, located at 35 South College St. in Athens. Performances are July 20-23, July 27-30, and August 3-6. Thursday through Saturday the show will take place at 7:30 p.m., and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for those age 12 and under and seniors, and $10 for groups of ten or more people.

A special sneak peak of the show will take place on July 6, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Forum Theater. There will be a talk by director Kindra Steenerson, a special look at the various production elements of the show, a cast meet and greet, a performance by the cast, some light refreshments, and the box office will be open for those who wish to buy advance tickets.

Two free community storytelling workshops, led by teaching artists Emily Prince and Merri Biechler, will take place July 6-7, with the first workshop directed at those ages 12-17, and the second at those ages 18 and older. Prince and Biechler will lead the groups in an exploration of the theme “All You Need Is Love,” examining social issues like racism, sexism, body image, bullying, media consumption, and conflict. The workshops will take place in the Forum Theater and in the Schoonover Center on Ohio University’s campus. A catered lunch will be provided. Registration is required and space is limited. Register online at campermo@ohio.edu or call 740-535-OVST.
