West Virginia Gets Funding To Support Criminal Probes
< < Back toCHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – West Virginia’s U.S. senators say the state will receive almost $1 million from the Justice Department to support DNA analysis, ballistics research and analyst training.
According to Sens. Shelley Moore Capito and Joe Manchin, awards include $436,000 to West Virginia State Police to help its forensics laboratory reduce its backlog and analyze DNA samples.
Another $378,000 is for the West Virginia University Research Corp. to improve the ballistics identification system to help police match guns to crimes.
The West Virginia Division of Justice and Community Services will get $108,000 for continued training for the State Police Forensic Laboratory.
