Lady Spartans Bounce Back While The Boys Keep To Their Winning Ways
< < Back to lady-spartans-bounce-back-boys-keep-winning-waysAfter a tough TVC-Ohio loss to Vinton County, the Lady Spartans (3-1, 1-1) bounced back this past week with a huge 84 to 26 win over the River Valley Lady Raiders (0-4, 0-1).
Alexander kept a steady lead the entire game, winning 26-10 after the first quarter, and then going into the locker room at halftime up 46-15.
Junior Rachel Richardson led all scorers with 27 points, including three 3-pointers, and her junior sidekick Makena Rice finished the game with 21 points. Other Lady Spartans contributed to score with Mallory Rankin having eight, and Jadyn Mace scoring six.
Kelsey Brown led the Lady Raiders with 12 points.
This week the Lady Spartans host the Meigs Marauders on Monday, travel to Wellston on Thursday. Also this weekend they will compete against Paint Valley in the Todd Wingett Memorial shootout at Alexander.
For the Alexander boys (4-1, 3-0), they won two straight TVC-Ohio games this past week against Nelsonville-York and Athens.
They started their week off on Tuesday traveling to Nelsonville-York and beating the Buckeyes 82 to 45.
The Spartans started the game on a 15-0 run and never looked back, clicking on all cylinders and getting their 3rd win in a row.
Junior Kam Riley led all scorers with 19 points, and Sophomore center Caleb Terry had 16 points. JK Kerns and Luke Kish worked together at the point guard position combing for another 16 points.
The Spartans defense was all over the place and forced many Buckeye turnovers that led to easy points for Alexander.
Brayden Allen and Ethan Bohyer each finished with 14 points for the Buckeyes.
On Thursday, Alexander hosted Athens winning 50-44 in a game that came down to the fourth quarter, but key shots from the Spartans late in the game sealed the victory.
JK Kearns hit a huge 3-pointer to tie the game with 2:23 left, and then Kam Riley knocked down another with 1:37 remaining.
The Bulldogs were forced to foul and the Spartans stepped up to the line and made their free throws.
Kam Riley and Dylan Mecum were the leading scorers for the Spartans, each scoring 12 points. Mecum also pulled down 11 rebounds.
Luke Kish and JK Kearns both finished the game with seven points, and Kish added six rebounds and five steals.
Justin Hynes had 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists for the Bulldogs.
This week, the Alexander Spartans have two TVC-Ohio games against River Valley on Tuesday and then traveling to Vinton County on Friday.
