Raiders Win Thriller Over Nelsonville-York
< < Back to raiders-win-thriller-nelsonville-yorkRiver Valley trailed Nelsonville-York by five points, 46-41, with just under two minutes to play in the game. The Raiders (5-13, 3-7 TVC Ohio) then scored the last eight points of the game to beat the Buckeyes (5-13, 1-10) 49-46 Tuesday night.
The game was back and forth the entire way. The Buckeyes held a one point lead going into the fourth quarter after Justin Perry hit a three-pointer as time expired in the third quarter. The teams traded buckets throughout the final frame with neither able to gain a significant edge.
The Buckeyes put together a small run to take a 46-41 lead with 1:58 to play in the game. Layne Fitch hit a three for the Raiders to cut the lead to two, 46-44, with 1:12 to play in the game. The Raiders then capitalized on a Buckeye miss and tied the game at 46 with just 45 seconds to play.
Nelsonville-York once again failed to score on the ensuing possession, and Matt Mollohen was able to hit one free throw to give the Raiders the lead, 47-46, with 18.6 seconds to play. Mollohen also made the second free throw, but it was waved off due to a lane violation.
Down one, with possession, the Buckeyes got a good look after breaking the press. Jonathon Richards had a chance at a layup with four seconds to play, but it rattled around the rim and bounced out. Two Raider free throws made it a three-point game with 3.4 to play.
Richards once again got a decent look, this time at a three-pointer, to tie the game, but it was off the mark.
Leading the way for the Raiders was Jordan Lambert with 13 points. Jarrett McCarley added 10 points and six rebounds. Justin Perry and Brayden Allen each had 14 points for the Buckeyes.
The Raiders will play host to a red-hot Athens team (9-9, 7-3 TVC Ohio) on Friday night. The Buckeyes will look to snap an eight-game losing streak on Friday when they travel to Vinton County (12-6, 8-2)
