Witnesses: Brush Fire Sparked by Flicked Cigarette

Branen Hansen says the fire started after his friend flicked his cigarette.
“He said he flicked his cigarette cuz [sic] him and his old lady were arguing,” Hansen said. “And he walked away and he said he looked back and there was just like smoke coming up…we tried stomping it out and threw a little bit of water on it but it didn’t help.”
The fire managed to burn about two acres before being put out by firefighters this afternoon. Four departments responded to the fire on a field on East Third Street.
No injuries were reported.
The area is under a red flag warning until 8 p.m. Under Ohio law outdoor burning is not permitted from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the months of March, April, May, October, and November.
