For the past 10 years Merrill Garbus has been crafting unique, eclectic sounds under the name tune-yards. The tunes she makes draw heavily on lo-fi percussion, ukulele, and, as of the project’s most recent release, entitled “I Can Feel You Creep Into My Personal Life,” a variety of gorgeous synthetic sounds in the tradition of various types of dance music.

Tune-yards will be performing at the 2018 Nelsonville Music Festival on Sunday, June 3, and WOUB’s Emily Votaw had the opportunity to speak to Garbus about white privilege, living in a surveillance state, and the beauty of synthesizers.
