NMF ’18: Brainy Rock ‘n’ Roll and Politics, Speaking with Chris Funk of The Decemberists
< < Back toThe Decemberists have been crafting brainy, oddball pop for almost 20 years. Sometimes the music they make is weirdly Jethro Tull influenced, sometimes the Portland-based outfit just sounds like a lost ’80s college rock band, and other times, such as on the group’s most recent release, “I’ll Be Your Girl,” they trod into brand new sonic territory, armed with synthesizers and melancholy over the current state of affairs.
WOUB’s Emily Votaw spoke with Chris Funk, the band’s longtime multi-instrumentalist about the group’s latest foray into the political, working with producer John Congleton, and performing at the 2018 Nelsonville Music Festival on Friday, June 1.
