Lady Lancers Win Again, Continue Climbing Standings
< < Back to lady-lancers-win-again-continue-climbing-standingsFederal Hocking seems to have found its stride in 2019, as the Lady Lancers took their recent winning form to South Gallia Monday night in hopes of earning a third straight victory.
No scoring occurred until halfway through the first quarter when Hannah Rose put up an open shot to begin a 9-2 run for the Lady Lancers, ending in a timeout.
Both sides got several clean looks in the first half but it was simply Federal Hocking’s night, outscoring the Lady Rebels 31-19 at the halftime buzzer after leading scorer Paige Tolson heaved up a breathtaking buzzer-beater to end the second quarter.
The break allowed Fed Hock to catch their breath and resume their commanding performance in the second half, while the Lady Rebels could not mount a comeback push after several opportunities to get back into the game passed by.
South Gallia did feature a strong shooting performance from Kiley Stapleton who made a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc to lead her team with 17 total points.
Fed Hock’s star players performed well on offense against a defense struggling to slow them down. Paige Tolson finished with 19 points and 5 steals, while Emma Beha and Brianna baker earned 13 and 10 points respectively. Beha led rebounds with four on offense and three on defense.
The Lady Lancers subbed most of their starters off for the fourth quarter and only scored four points in the final period, allowing South Gallia to cut the lead down, however Faith Poling of the Lady Rebels went down with a leg injury while contesting a shot early in the quarter, ending her night with eight points and a pair of rebounds.
Although the Lady Rebels built a late run, it was not enough to mount a serious comeback as Federal Hocking won 58-39. This win bumps the Lady Lancers up to fifth in the TVC-Hocking standings.
Federal Hocking (5-8) will hit the road again Saturday to face Belpre while South Gallia (5-10) looks to regroup in a Thursday game against Southern.
