Waterford Cruises to Win Against Federal Hocking
< < Back to waterford-cruises-to-win-against-federal-hockingIt was a tough loss Thursday evening for the Federal Hocking Lady Lancers as they battled against the Waterford Lady Wildcats. The Lady Lancers offense kept them in the game in the first half, but the Lady Wildcats defense took over in the second half and had a change of atmosphere.
This intense defensive battle won the game for the Lady Wildcats as they were able to force nine turnovers on the Lady Lancers. This led them to score several points in the second half.
The Lady Wildcats won the game with a final score of 43-13.
The leading scorer for the night for the Waterford Wildcats was Lily Roberts with 8 points, while the leading scorer for the Lady Lancers was Paige Tolson with 5 points for the night.
The Lady Wildcats defense made a huge impact in the second half, even the fourth quarter. Paige Tolson got a technical foul for her attitude and slamming her hand against the court. This resulted in foul shots for the other team. She fouled out, completely changing the mindset of the game for the Lady Lancers.
The Lady Lancers went 5 of 13 from free throw line, which could have helped to the final score.
According to coach Jerry Close, “That’s what we try to do is play defense. If you don’t play defense you don’t score 17 points in a half and win.”
Close is proud and eager that his girls will get better defensively each game to improve on the season to defeat each opponent.
The Federal Hocking Lady Lancers are set to play Monday, Jan. 28 at home against the Wahama Lady White Falcons.
