Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader said in a release that a motorist called 911 around 6 a.m. Thursday to report a man lying in the center of Ohio 124. Reader says 58-year-old Donald Denny, of Wellston, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff says Denny’s vehicle was found inside “road closed” signs put out Wednesday night due to water on the road.
Reader said evidence showed Denny’s vehicle had been at least halfway submerged in water at some point. But the cause of death hasn’t been determined.
Reader says the preliminary investigation indicates Denny’s death could have been related to overexertion and a heart condition or drowning.
