In Jackson County, seven races needed to be decided but only 440 of the county’s 6,089 registered voters were up to the task.

Randy Heath, the mayor for the city of Jackson will face  Republican Randy Evans in the next election. Evans beat Eric G. Brown 161 to 141.

In Wellston, the city Auditor Chris Dupree will not be returning for another term as a Republican. Dupree was challenged by fellow GOP members Alicia Beatty and Gary Crabtree. Crabtree had 39 votes, Beatty 16 and Dupree 11.

Two seats on Wellston’s city council were being challenged. In the first ward, incumbent D. Keith Woolum’s 8 votes beat Teresa Ponn-Lemaster’s 3.  And in the third ward, Sam Clark lost the bid to unseat Rick Hudson 6 to 0.

Voters in Wellston’s 5 precincts were also asked to renew a two year roads and bridges construction levy. The 5 year/2 mills tax was approved 49 to 26.

Additional fire protection levies in the village of Coalton and Jackson – each coming in at 1.75 mills for 5 years were both defeated.

The 5 year fire protection levy for 1.5 mills in Jackson County’s Lick Township was approved 23 to 1.
