< < Back to weston-baer-becomes-meigs-all-time-leading-scorer-in-loss-to-cadetsBEVERLY, Ohio- Step aside Trevor Harrison, there’s a new points leader in town and his name is Weston Baer. Baer went into Tuesday’s game against the Fort Frye Cadets with 1,255 points and only needed four more to surpass Harrison and become the Meigs boys’ all-time points leader. Baer came out firing in the first period putting up five points early, and sealing the deal on becoming the top points leader in Meigs boys basketball history.
Even though Meigs looked to celebrate Baer’s achievement, the Cadets still finished the game victorious. After an impressive showcase of shooting, Fort Frye beat the Marauders 67-54.
After a hot start offensively for Meigs, they only amounted for 10 points in the second period. Fort Frye kept up the pace putting up another 18 points in the second period, for a total of 38 points at the half. Zane Wallace was the leading score by the end of the period with 12 points.
The second half wasn’t much different as the Cadets continued to spray from deep. Meigs was without center Bobby Musser Tuesday, as he was sick with the flu. This was problematic for the Marauders, as they showed no threat on the inside. When Meigs got to the interior, they failed to convert at the charity stripe, only knocking down two free-throws on the night.
Weston Baer was the Marauders leading scorer with 20 points. This puts Baer at a career total of 1,275 points, which is good for 16 more than the previous record holder. For the Cadets, Kelton Fogle dropped a 23 banger which led the team in scoring and helped give Fort Frye a 13-point edge on the night.
Meigs picked up their fifth loss in a row, putting them at 5-8 on the season. The dry spell could come to an end as they travel to Nelsonville-York on Friday, who currently sits at the bottom of the TVC-Ohio with a 2-10 record. A win would be crucial for the Marauders to turn the tides on their season.
