All Athens County Library locations will close from 6 p.m. on Monday March 16 through at least April 5, according to a press release.
The libraries ask that anyone with flu-like symptoms refrain from visiting on the 16 “for the health and safety of their fellow patrons and staff.”
Libraries that are polling location will be open for voting on Tuesday, March 17.
The libraries’ regular board meeting will also take place as scheduled on the same day, but will be moved to Rocky Boots in Nelsonville at 4 p.m.
Due dates for items currently checked out will be extended (ACPL does not have fines for late returns) and all holds will be lifted. The library encourages those with items to practice social distancing and not return them during the closure.
They encouraged patrons to utilize online resources at myacpl.org. And any residents of Ohio and neighboring counties in West Virginia who do not have a card can sign up for an eLibrary card at myacpl.org/card.

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — All programs and meeting room reservations at Athens County Public Libraries have been cancelled or postponed from Saturday, March 14 through Saturday, April 4.
Becca Lachman, communications officer for ACPL, said the change is a precaution based on the novel coronavirus.
Library staff are also removing toys from all locations and are increasing disinfection of all hard surfaces in ACPL buildings, according to a Facebook post.
Lachman said hours at Athens County Public Libraries branches have not changed.
The Friends of the Athens Public Library book sale on March 14 has been cancelled.
