ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — The city of Athens says playgrounds, public restrooms, park shelters and picnic tables at city parks are closed until further notice.

The Arts, Parks, and Recreation Department made this decision after Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s press conference on Sunday. DeWine and Ohio Department of Health Director Amy Acton issued a “stay at home” order Sunday, and ordered public playgrounds closed.

Other park areas are still open, including basketball and tennis courts, athletic fields, trails, green spaces, the skate park, and the dog parks.

The city is also encouraging citizens to watch city council meetings remotely. Anyone with a question for city council may email askquestion@ci.athens.oh.us.
