Like most everything else, Radio Free Athens has been impacted by the current situation pertaining to COVID-19, which the World Health Organization has deemed a pandemic. Although you won’t get to hear your favorite DJs on the air until at least May, we will be supplying faithful listeners with playlists in the meantime. Find them below!

RFA

From R@T

The pandemic theme continues this week.  I have, once again,  tried to take a more positive approach to my list and have hopefully overcome the technology barriers I have to create a playable list for you.  Thanks to you all.
Barbara Streisand- People
JD Hutchinson- Love at a Distance
Richard Thompson- Keep Your Distance
The Police- Don’t Stand So Close to Me
America- Lonely People
Tom Waits- Hang on St. Christopher
Al Green- Let’s Stay Together
Canned Heat- Let’s Work Together
The Ramones- I Wanna Live
Weird Al Yankovic- Everything You Know is Wrong
From DJ Grumpy Grandma
Lovely Day – Bill Withers
(R.I.P.)
I Wonder – Sixto Rodriguez
Everybody Wants to Feel Like You – John Prine
(This song has been stuck in my head for a few days — I love it because I don’t really know what it is about, and because I ain’t no scarecrow cop, I don’t need no transalazation, I don’t need no diddly bop!)
Influenza – Todd Rundgren
Third Planet – Modest Mouse
How wildlife trade is linked to coronavirus – Vox
(You know how everyone is obsessed with watching COVID-19 news videos right now? Yes, I am too. I have watched it dozens of times and certainly not because it is comforting.)
Black Qualls – Thundercat
Aliens – Big Kitty
(A real good song about the slow way the end of the world happens!)
It’s Not So Hard – Sparklehorse
(It’s not! At least not for many, who can work from home, like myself, and who are still employed, like myself. STAY HOME. We have all overcome seemingly insurmountable things in our lives, and this is very different than anything else Americans have ever experienced, but I know we all have what it takes to contribute to the common good.)
Iowa Dream – Arthur Russell
(I miss my family very much. Even the things I strongly dislike about my hometown seem downright charming, and there is no amount of money I wouldn’t pay — if I had it — to spend Easter with my parents and brother.)
From Michael T.
This week’s selections are all live performances, culled from or evocative of a time that required seeking, listening and immersing oneself in the experience, long before this era of 37 billion songs in the palm your hand. Radio Free Athens thanks you for exploring and listening. Please enjoy.
