These students have been asked to return to their permanent residences to isolate and follow health guidelines. The Athens City-County Health Department is working to notify potentially exposed individuals who had interactions with these students before the positive test.
Athletes from football, men’s and women’s basketball, and volleyball were allowed to return to campus for voluntary summer workouts, and had to self-quarantine for seven days before taking a COVID-19 test. The university said 125 student-athletes have been tested to date.
If an athlete’s test is clear, he or she receives a physical examination and medical clearance before being able to use university facilities to train.
University Athletics has temporarily stopped all conditioning and training.
As of Wednesday, July 8, Athens County had 45 active COVID-19 cases.
