The scoring started early with BGSU sophomore Katie Cox finishing a squared pass from six yards out to put the Falcons up 1-0. Little did we know, that goal would end up being the game-winner.
“They got the ball in the box on their first chance, we didn’t defend it as well as we could and they scored, and I think we got a little flustered at that,” Ohio head coach Aaron Rodgers said.
Just two short minutes following the first goal, junior keeper Sam Wexell came out of position to close down an attacker, and according to the referee, the result of the challenge was a penalty. BGSU junior Madi Wolfsbauer would convert the penalty shortly after to increase their lead to 2-0 just 13 minutes into the contest.
The rest of the half would be quiet on the scoresheet, but BGSU continued to dominate the field for the most part. They finished the half with three shots on target.
“I think the big difference with (Bowling Green) is they just have a little extra edge in their fight. They seem to just step to the ball a little faster, they seem to fight a little harder, and we struggled to match that,” Rodgers said.
The second half showcased a Bobcat team with newfound energy, seeming to possess and win the ball back with force. Unfortunately, the momentum was halted when Wolfsbauer fired from around 30 yards out and buried the ball into the top left corner.
The match finished at 3-0, giving BGSU the season sweep over the Bobcats. Ohio will turn around next week for a two-game away stretch, the first of which in Oxford against Miami.
