CROOKSVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) — Parents and children made a splash at the Crooksville Pool’s reopening last week.

As COVID vaccination rates continue to rise, many summer staples are returning, such as swimming.

On a blindingly sunny afternoon, the pool was packed and the air was thick with the sound of delighted chatter.

Parents are just as thrilled as their children to spend hot, humid days at the pool once again.

“I’m excited because it’s another place to take the kids and it’s close. It’s very affordable,” said Zack Gordy, a Crooksville parent.

"...I feel like it's a great thing," said Gorby when speaking about the pool re-opening. "Gives the kids something to do. Get them out of the house."

The pool was closed for two years because of COVID-19 restrictions and construction.

The outdoor, olympic-sized pool is located in the north end of Village Park.

It’s open from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Hours may broaden if the pool gets more staff.

Pool manager Rebecca Snouffer is also excited for the pool’s re-opening.

She has a personal connection to the pool as her mother worked there for 19 years.

Snouffer felt it was important to have the pool open this summer and is ready to work.

But she wasn’t the only one breaking a sweat to open the pool.

“Lots of village workers themselves put lots of hard work into this. There’s so many names I can’t even list them all,” Snouffer said. “But I really would like to thank them for all the work that they’ve done.”

Daily admission is free for seniors and children under 5, while $4 for adults and $3 for students. Season passes can be purchased for $150 for a family.

The pool will remain open until students return to school in the fall.
