Ohio Athletic Director Julie Cromer awarded Rogan the scholarship in front of her teammates. In the moment, Rogan was overcome with emotion.
“It’s honestly everything I’ve ever wanted so I didn’t know how to feel, so my first reaction was to cry,” she said. “I cried like a baby, but I was just so happy.
Rogan’s journey with the team started when she earned a spot as a walk-on. She’s played in 36 games for the Bobcats always with the goal of earning a scholarship.
“[My teammates] know it’s something I’ve always wanted. I’ve always talked about it, so just to be able to share that experience with them was so great. You could tell they were just as happy for me as I was for myself.”
Head Coach Bob Boldon said he wanted Rogan to be able to share the moment with the rest of the team.
“We could’ve done it in my office, but that wouldn’t have been the same because the reaction was genuine. That was her genuine reaction to being a part of this team and then you got to see how valuable she is to the team.”
Boldon praised the senior and her capabilities as a teammate.
“She’s an incredibly unselfish person,” he said. “She’s a team-first person and we’re thrilled to have her be a part of this team.”
Rogan said while she’s happy, the scholarship won’t change her approach.
“I’m definitely going to keep the same energy and everything … I think now I have a little more confidence, I know I’ve lacked that in previous years. But I know now I’m going to come in with more confidence.”
Rogan’s next goal? Helping the Bobcats bring a MAC championship to Athens.
