After some early struggles on their first drive, the Muskies capitalized on a New Lexington fumble when Morgan got his night started by finding receiver Ian Galaub on the slant route for the opening touchdown on just their second drive of the game.
A few series later, Morgan would find Emerson on a seven-yard strike for the duo’s first touchdown connection of the night to double the lead. Morgan’s touchdown pass to Nathen Walker from 35 yards out would make it 21-0, and another touchdown pass to Emerson from 24 yards out would extend the lead to 27-0.
The Mustangs would not go quietly into the night though. A 16-yard touchdown pass from New Lexington quarterback Hunter Kellogg to receiver Tatem Toth got the Mustangs on the board, and the ensuing two-point conversion made it 27-8.
Then, after a long John Glenn drive to start the second half, New Lexington linebacker Ryan Hobbs recovered a Muskie fumble and took it to the house for a 99-yard scoop and score cutting John Glenn’s lead to 28-15.
The Mustang’s surge was in vain, as John Glenn began to run away with the game late in the third quarter. A seven-yard touchdown rush from Bronson Bendle extended the lead to 35-15.
Later, Morgan would find Emerson once again on a 21-yard touchdown connection to put the game further out of reach. Morgan would finish the night with 28 completions on 34 attempts, 309 yards, and five touchdown passes, with Emerson hauling in 12 of those passes for 166 yards, and three touchdowns.
The Mustangs will try to bounce back next week at home against West Muskingum, while the Muskies will try to continue their winning ways when they travel to Thornville to take on Sheridan.
