On the first Waverly possession, the Tigers ran a jet-sweep handoff to Senior Penn Morrison collecting 50 rushing yards and resulting in a touchdown. Waverly’s run game continued as RB Jase Hurd racked up two more rushing touchdowns pushing the Tigers to 21 points.
Nearing the end of the half, Unioto fought for a score as the seconds ticked down. Sophomore QB Newton Hoops made the pass to his brother WR Blake Hoops who barely kept his body in the end zone for the Shermans’ only touchdown of the game. Waverly 21, Unioto 7 at halftime.
After the aggravating touchdown allowed by Waverly, Coach Chris Crabtree rallied his Tigers to focus more on the pass game in the second half. Mark Stulley, Will Futhey, and Penn Morrison each snagged a receiving touchdown to add to their statlines. Will Futhey also took the Shermans’ onside kick in the 4th quarter to the house pushing the final score: Waverly 47, Unioto 10.
The Waverly Tigers record increases to 3-0. When asked about the perfect season so far, Coach Crabtree said, “It’s great…I always tell our guys ‘the fun is in the winning.’”
Waverly travels back to Chillicothe for their next game; this time to take on the Chillicothe Cavaliers. Unioto stays close to home battling the Huntington Huntsmen in their next bout.
