< < Back to bobcats-hockey-drops-second-straight-to-undefeated-iowa-state-saturdayATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — The Bobcats looked to bounce back from their loss Friday night against the Iowa State Cyclones. The Cyclones (10-0) had other plans though as they beat the Bobcats (6-3) with a final score of 4-1.
Ohio and Iowa State battled in a even matchup early on, but it was JT Schimmzi finding the back of the net first.
The Bobcats carried a 1-0 lead after one period of play but the second period is where Iowa state was able to capitalize off of Bobcats mistakes.
Chad McIlwain and Brooks Mitzel both scored power play goals. Hunter Floris also scored a goal as the Cyclones went up 3-1 at the end of the second period.
It was much of the same in the third period as both teams played evenly,
Ohio controlled the puck for much of the period but the Cyclones defense played very well but both teams were even until Austin Keil scored an empty net goal.
“I thought we took a couple bad penalties and they took advantage of it, two goals on the power play,” Ohio head coach Lionel Mauron said. “After that we chased the game and couldn’t make it happen at the end.”
Looking forward the Ohio Bobcats will play Illinois at Bird Arena Friday and Saturday. Puck drop for both games will be at 7 p.m.
“We need better habits, in practice and we just had a good talk with our seniors and they’re ready to take the next step,” Mauron said. “I think we need to understand it’s only October first of all and there is a lot of time left this year to keep building and to get better and better.”
Iowa State is set to play Maryville next Friday and Saturday in Ames. Puck drop for those games will be at 7:30 p.m.
