WHEELERSBURG, Ohio (WOUB) — Braxton Sammons is a senior special teams specialist for the Wheelersburg Pirates. He made the preseason all-state second team after making six field goals and going 40/41 on extra points his junior season.

Sammons kept pace again his senior year with six made field goals, finishing the regular season with 48 total points.

He also has logged multiple touchbacks off of kickoffs and pinned opponents inside the 20 yard line off punts 14 times.

His stellar performance on special teams has warranted heavy interest and offers from college scouts, with the Wheelersburg kicker locked in to play at the next level. Sammons explained his future plans beyond his days as a Pirate.

“I’ve been to some places, I have some places on my mind, but I’m up for it. I mean, I know it’s a new chapter, but I think I’ve prepared myself to get ready to compete at that level, so I’m excited for it.”

Special teams has been a silent X-factor throughout the season for Wheelersburg, as the team will try to utilize it in their push for a deep run in the playoffs.

“I think special teams has been one of our strengths this year,” said Sammons. “A lot of teams don’t execute special teams the way we can so we gotta make sure we take advantage of that.”
